Dr. Sriram Sundaravel is a Staff Scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Ulrich Steidl at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Sriram obtained his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from Anna University, India and Masters’ degree in Cell & Molecular Biology in Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Following his Masters’ degree, he earned his Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the University of Chicago in 2019. As a Ph.D. student in the laboratory of Dr. Amittha Wickrema, he uncovered the mechanisms by which a signaling protein DOCK4 promoted erythroid dysplasia in myelodysplastic syndromes. Driven by a desire to establish an independent leukemia research program, he pursued postdoctoral research in the Steidl lab, focusing on novel mechanisms governing stem cell function in both normal and malignant hematopoiesis. Dr. Sundaravel envisions that his research will advance leukemia treatment, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes for individuals with leukemia in the future.
